Sleep onset latency reflects homeostatic sleep pressure. Normal range is 10–20 minutes. Under 5 minutes suggests chronic sleep debt. Over 30 minutes may indicate insomnia or elevated anxiety.
How to Improve
- 4-7-8 breathing technique before bed
- Cognitive shuffle (random imagery to distract rumination)
- No screens 1 hour before bed
