PVT is the gold standard for assessing vigilance and sleep deprivation effects. A 10-minute sustained attention test. Mean RT 200–350 ms with adequate sleep. An increase of 50+ ms from baseline indicates significant slowing (Basner & Dinges 2011).
How to Improve
- Adequate sleep is the only reliable method
- Caffeine provides temporary relief, not a sleep substitute
